정고요나는 온라인에서 수많은 개인이 서로의 일상을 활발히 공유하고 관찰하는 현상에 주목하여, 소셜미디어에서 채집한 사진을 소재로 한 회화 작업을 통해 동시대 정서를 시각화한다. 그의 작업에서는 주로 자기 자신을 촬영한 ‘셀피’나 의도를 가리고 상황을 연출한 ‘간접셀피’를 볼 수 있는데, 이는 가상의 공간에서 자신을 브랜드화 하고 타인에게 스스로를 증명하고 싶은 현대인의 욕망을 드러낸다. 빠르게 확산되었다가 이내 휘발되는 온라인상의 이미지들을 작품에 끌어들이는 방식은 작가가 자신을 둘러싼 세계와 지금의 사회상을 이해하려는 시도이다.
